Picasso Mini Bungee Bluewater Breakaway

The Picasso Mini Bungee Bluewater Breakaway is a compact, pre-assembled connector for a speargun fitted to a floatline breakaway system. It keeps the breakaway connection organised before firing and provides a short elastic section as the load transfers away from the speargun.

What the breakaway system does

In a correctly configured breakaway rig, the shooting line releases from the speargun after the shot and remains connected to the floatline and float. The diver retains the speargun instead of allowing it to become part of the loaded line system.

This separates the gun from the main pulling load, gives the fish room to run against the float system and allows the diver to concentrate on controlling the floatline. The compact bungee section also cushions the initial transfer of tension, reducing the sudden peak load applied to the shooting line, spear connection and other rigging components.

How the components work

The elastic tube keeps light tension in the connection so the breakaway assembly remains neatly positioned before the shot. During release, its short working movement softens the change from an unloaded shooting line to a loaded float system.

The internal braided cord reinforces the connection and acts as a mechanical restraint inside the elastic body. The swivel allows rotational movement between components to help limit line twist, while the corkscrew-style fitting provides the detachable connection used in the breakaway arrangement.

Compatibility and inspection

Compatibility depends on the speargun’s line-release layout, the shooting-line termination and the clips, swivels and floatline used elsewhere in the system. The Mini Bungee should not be treated as universally compatible without checking the complete rig.

Before entering the water, confirm that the connector holds correctly under light tension and releases cleanly without catching on the speargun. Inspect the elastic tube, exposed cord, loop, swivel and clip before every use. Rinse thoroughly in fresh water afterward and replace the assembly if the elastic becomes cracked, cut or permanently stretched, or if any metal fitting is bent or corroded.
